Early Life
Harry S. Truman was born in Lamar, MO on May 8th, 1884. He spent his childhood and adolescence working on a farm. In 1917, when the US became involved in WWI, Truman unexpectedly volunteered. He had experience serving in the National Guard from 1905-1911. At this time, Truman was 34, yet he was experienced because of his former duties. After his service, Truman moved towards the political scene. Harry Truman was a presiding judge for 8 years. He then gained the political knowledge and experience to take the opportunity as a candidate for the United States senate in 1934. Truman won, and was one of the first United States senators to take office in Washington D.C.. In July of 1944, Truman became Vice President under Franklin Roosevelt, and when Roosevelt passed away in office, Truman took over.
